Saily vs Yesim: Which eSIM Fits Your Trip?

Compare Japan data prices, unlimited-plan speed limits, hotspot use and refunds before choosing your travel eSIM.

Saily is the better-priced option in the 10 GB and 20 GB Japan examples below; Yesim is slightly cheaper at 5 GB. For other destinations, compare the exact pack you need. If you want unlimited data or a laptop hotspot, check the speed limits and plan conditions before choosing by price.

A cheap eSIM stops being cheap if it runs out halfway through your trip, starts before you arrive or slows down when you need your laptop. Saily and Yesim both sell travel data, but choosing between them gets easier once you compare a real itinerary rather than their lowest advertised price.

Saily vs Yesim at a glance

What matters Saily Yesim
A normal holiday data pack Fixed-data options; compare allowance and validity Fixed-data options; compare allowance and validity
Unlimited data Daily high-speed allowance followed by reduced speed Partner-network fair-use rules can reduce speed
Laptop hotspot Japan plans include hotspot use; speed limits still matter Available on most plans, subject to the local operator
Extras to consider Built-in ad blocking, web protection and virtual location Pay & Fly is a separate pay-as-you-go option
Cancellation Unactivated-plan refund requests within 30 days; used-plan refunds are conditional Unused/unactivated-plan requests within 30 days; small refunds can be account credit

Neither brand name tells you which will have the best signal at your particular guesthouse. Local networks, coverage and your phone all matter. Choose the product and conditions first, then check the destination plan before paying.

Which is cheaper? A Japan price comparison

These are the Japan prices displayed on 3 November 2026, in US dollars, for one eSIM. They exclude any extra coupon or referral discount. Yesim's displayed prices included promotions, so the comparison can change when those offers end.

Japan plan Saily Yesim Lower displayed price
5 GB, 30 days US$10.99 US$10.56 Yesim by US$0.43
10 GB, 30 days US$17.99 US$19.20 Saily by US$1.21
20 GB, 30 days US$24.99 US$29.76 Saily by US$4.77

Compare the current Saily Japan plans and Yesim Japan plans before buying. Check the selected currency and final checkout amount too.

For a week in Tokyo with hotel Wi-Fi and modest mobile use, paying for 20 GB just because its cost per GB is lower may waste money. For a longer trip with regular video calls or hotspot use, a small pack might mean buying another one. Estimate the total you need first, then compare that allowance.

The Japan eSIM guide puts these providers alongside other options. Don't carry the Japan price winner over to Greece or another country without checking those plans separately.

What does unlimited data actually mean?

Unlimited data and unlimited high-speed data are different things.

Saily's unlimited plans have a daily high-speed allowance, then drop to about 1 Mbps for the rest of the day. The allowance resets at midnight in the eSIM's local time. Check the amount included in your destination plan rather than assuming every unlimited product has the same allowance. See Saily's plan and speed-limit explanation.

Yesim doesn't apply its own additional fair-use restriction, but its partner networks can. An unlimited plan can therefore slow down after the network's high-speed allowance is used. There isn't one universal threshold you can safely assume for every destination. Read the Yesim unlimited-plan policy alongside the product you select.

Reduced speed may be manageable for maps and messaging. A work call, large upload or several people tethering is a different use case. If you need dependable working hours online, check your accommodation's Wi-Fi too and keep a second way to connect.

Can you use a hotspot with Saily or Yesim?

Saily's Japan plans include hotspot sharing. That doesn't remove an unlimited plan's speed limit or turn a fixed pack into unlimited data.

Yesim enables hotspot use on most plans without an extra tethering fee, but local operators can restrict it. Its hotspot guidance doesn't guarantee availability in every situation.

Before tethering a laptop, pause cloud backups, software updates and other background downloads. They can use your allowance without you noticing. Check the exact plan's hotspot conditions if sharing data is essential, rather than relying on a general provider comparison.

Installation, activation and your usual number

Check that your exact phone model supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked before buying. Regional versions of a familiar phone can have different SIM support.

Separate two steps:

  1. Install the eSIM profile. You'll need a working connection and the provider's instructions.
  2. Start the data plan. Follow the activation rule for the product you bought, including any deadline for starting it.

Saily's Japan setup is designed to connect at the destination after installation and enabling the travel line. Yesim offers activation choices during purchase; check the selected option before you finish. Don't buy months ahead on the assumption that every plan can wait indefinitely.

Installation can affect cancellation rights, so read the refund conditions first if your trip is uncertain.

Treat the destination pack as mobile internet, rather than assuming it includes a local number. Saily offers separate phone-number functionality, while Yesim has separate virtual-number products. Those aren't the same thing as the ordinary data allowance. Messaging apps can use your travel data; normal calls and SMS on your home line still follow your home provider's roaming terms.

If setup goes wrong, use the travel eSIM troubleshooting guide before deleting the eSIM or buying another pack.

Refund rules are a real difference

Saily allows a full-refund request within 30 days when the purchased eSIM hasn't been installed or the data plan hasn't been activated. Once it's used, a refund isn't guaranteed. It may consider quality problems or plans with more than 99% of the data remaining. Read the Saily refund conditions.

Yesim also has a 30-day request window, but the product must be unactivated, unused and unexpired. Its policy treats installation as activation. Approved refunds of €10 or less are issued in Ycoins, its internal balance, rather than back to your card. Technical issues must be reported within one hour, with details and screenshots. Check the Yesim refund policy before installing a plan you might cancel.

That matters when buying a cheap backup pack: a refund policy doesn't necessarily let you try the connection, change your mind and get cash back. Save your receipt, plan details and any error messages.

Which should you choose?

Choose Saily when the fixed pack fits and its extras are useful

Saily is the stronger price choice in the larger Japan packs above. Its ad blocker, web protection and virtual location are useful extras if you want them, but they don't replace checking coverage and validity.

For a straightforward trip, choose the smallest pack that comfortably covers your likely use. You can compare Saily plans using our affiliate link, or check the individual destination products above.

Compare Yesim when its product fits your route better

Yesim is worth checking when its fixed pack costs less for your destination, or when you want to compare the separate Pay & Fly option with a conventional package. Its plan-purchase guide explains fixed allowances and paying for usage.

For a multi-country trip, check every stop against the chosen plan's coverage list. A global label isn't a substitute for checking the countries, and a country pack won't automatically cover your next border crossing.

Keep the choice simple if you already use one

In the 5 GB Japan example, the difference is 43 US cents. That alone isn't a compelling reason to switch apps if your current provider meets your needs. A larger saving, a better-fitting route or more useful conditions makes a stronger case.

Frequently asked questions

Is Saily cheaper than Yesim?

Sometimes. In the Japan examples, Saily costs less at 10 GB and 20 GB, while Yesim costs less at 5 GB. Compare the same destination, allowance, validity and currency, then check the final checkout amount.

Which is better for unlimited data?

Choose by the high-speed allowance and what happens after it's used. Saily explains its daily allowance and reduced-speed period; Yesim's limits can depend on the partner network. Neither unlimited label guarantees uninterrupted full-speed hotspot use.

Can I keep WhatsApp with a travel eSIM?

You can normally continue using your existing WhatsApp account over the travel data connection. A new data eSIM doesn't itself require a new WhatsApp number. Normal calls and SMS through your home provider are separate.

Should I install the eSIM before flying?

Follow the instructions for your plan and check when validity starts. Installation can affect cancellation rights, particularly with Yesim. Save the setup instructions before departure and use a stable connection when installing.

Should I still read a country eSIM guide?

Yes. Use this comparison to understand the providers, then check your itinerary. Start with the Japan eSIM guide or Greece eSIM guide if either matches your trip.
